Engraved Bricks Memorialize & Celebrate Life
March 13th, 2009
The Casper Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is selling engraved bricks, which will adorn the base of the 1.25 life-size “Joy of Life” bronze sculpture. This monument will be placed at the Commissary Mall Parkway late this June and will serve as the east gateway into downtown. “Patrons may purchase engraved brick pavers for $100 each, and the name of their loved one will be engraved on it. These pavers will honor those living or deceased who symbolize the ‘Joy of Life,’” says DDA Executive Director Tina Wulf.
Chris Navarro’s “Joy of Life” sculpture depicts a mare with her colt. “It shows the unique love and bond shared between the two animals,” Navarro says. “There’s such joy in the life the mare and colt are living, and it puts a smile on my face to see the colt frolic and play.”
Proceeds from the sale of the “Joy of Life” bricks will help defray the cost of the public art project. Order forms for engraved bricks are available at the DDA office, 109 W. 2nd St. or on-line at www.downtowncasper.com. Click on the “Order ‘Joy of Life’ Bricks” form, print it, fill it out, and mail the form and $100 check for each brick ordered to DDA, 109 W. 2nd St., Casper, WY 82601.
As orders are received and processed, pavers will be purchased and engraved by the DDA. Then, Casper’s Street Department will replace existing pavers around the “Joy of Life” sculpture with each new engraved paver. Up to 300 bricks are available for engraving. Those pavers, which are purchased by May 22, 2009, will likely be placed in time for the unveiling and dedication of the “Joy of Life” monument on Friday, June 26, 2009, which is immediately prior to the start of the 2009 NIC Fest.
