Defining Casper for Generations to Come!

It’s finally here! The City of Casper, the CVB and other area stakeholders, including DDA, are conducting image perception and brand research on the Casper area.

The Making Casper initiative will result in a cohesive, comprehensive brand system for the City of Casper and their partner agencies. More than just a logo or slogan, a brand is what citizens and visitors will think of whenever they see or hear the word “Casper.” The materials that result from this process will be used by Casper’s top community and visitor organizations in all communications, both written and visual.

Be sure to check out and like the Making Casper Facebook Page for more information and updates about the project. Also, check out this quick video for more information!

Parking Garage Undergoes Facelift

After a successful  and City Council matched $184,000 grant application to the Wyoming Business Council, the City of Casper and Downtown Development Authority are working on several projects within the downtown parking garage.

Walls are in the process of being painted a bright white.  This will lend to a better lit and cleaner atmosphere and will assist with graffiti abatement, going forward.  In addition, new signage and a public restroom are in process.  The entire project is scheduled for completion by June, 2014.

Council Approves Downtown Strategic Plan

The Casper City Council recently gave a nod to the Downtown Development Authority’s strategic plan.  The plan was over a year in the making with several modifications being required in order for the Council to provide a “thumbs up” at a recent work session.

The plan was originally part of the Crandall & Arambula strategic plan that was developed for the City of Casper.  Elements of that plan were not popular with property owners and city staff so the Downtown Development Authority board worked with Crandall & Arambula personnel to hone elements of the original plan that would continue to provide a development pathway for the downtown core.

The DDA has begun the process of implementation and is currently working on several projects which include public restrooms, branding and wayfinding signage, gateways, residential housing, a corridor hotel and retail.

The adoption of the strategic plan will allow the DDA to pursue future grant opportunities.

Mil Levy Election Process Underway

Every four years, downtown stakeholders are asked to renew the mill levy that is utilized to support the activities of the Downtown Development Authority.

State statute allows for a maximum of 30 mills to be levied.  The Casper Downtown Development Authority board has approved a 16 mill levy since its’ inception.  Revenues are utilized toward administrative costs and ongoing improvements within Downtown Development Authority boundaries.

This year’s election will be held on November 5, 2013.  Property owners can vote at the Natrona County Courthouse or by absentee ballot.  The Downtown Development Authority office has absentee forms and information.  Please call 235-6710 or send an email to ceo@downtowncasper.com.
