Now That’s Music to Our Ears
The heart of Casper has some of the best music stores and places to listen to live music. We might be bias, but here is our top list of downtown businesses to help you get your jam on:
Platte River Music Company
Thomas Frech has been running Platte River Music Company in Downtown Casper for over 21 years now. Selling new and used instruments. This is the perfect place to start your new band or pick out an instrument to teach yourself how to play.
Carrying everything from guitar straps to effects and tuners to basically any instrument you can think of, Platte River Music can set you up with everything you need to make your sound your own. Not only is Thomas the owner of this store, but he is also a fantastic musician that is happy to give pointers or answer any questions you have.
Keep an eye out for the new Chief of Security, Capo, while you are in there, you never know where he will be watching you from.
Stepping into this mainstay music store in Downtown Casper instantly makes you want to rock out. The vibrant album covers and energizing music pumping through the speakers invokes the desire to stay all day looking through the music selection and hanging out with your friends and other music lovers.
Sonic Rainbow has been selling new and used CDs, vinyl, cassettes, and more for over 20 years. The long-time staff is so knowledgeable about their inventory that they can often recommend something that even you didn’t know you would love. You won’t want to miss out on exclusive new releases on Record Store Day, April 13th.
New to the music scene in Downtown Casper is Rockstar Music Store. In 2012, owners Ryan and Serena Meyer allowed their passion for music to take the lead and they opened the store. “We just wanted to live and do what we love. Whether we have a small shop until we get old or a mega chain in the end, we will always be happy doing what we love,” says co-owner Serena Meyer.
Boasting a large inventory of guitars, drums, basses, pedals, amps, and accessories, Rockstar Music is the ultimate shop for, you guessed it, the ultimate Rockstar. The hand-drawn artwork on the walls and unique atmosphere allow you to really get in the music mood and try out one of the many custom electric or acoustic guitars that are for sale. You can also find a wall full of info on upcoming gigs by local bands. This locally owned store is sure to rock your socks off with their customer service and extensive inventory.
Frontier Brewing Company and Taproom
Now that you are geared up to play your own music, maybe it’s time to take a break for some live music. Nearly every week, Frontier Brewing hosts a different local or regional artist; favorites Zack Schommer, Buffalo Scout, and Lacy Nelson are some of the musicians you will have the chance to hear.
This family-friendly venue has games, small batch craft beers on tap, and a relaxed atmosphere perfect for enjoying some tunes. Another great thing about this place? You can bring in your own food. There are a few snacks available for purchase, but we recommend stopping at your favorite downtown restaurant and grabbing an order to go.
No matter what beat you march to, Downtown Casper has you covered.
