Kid’s Day Out: Adventure to Downtown Casper
There is always something happening in Downtown Casper and every day it seems there’s more things for kids of any age to get into! We’re halfway through summer break and have some great ideas to help you enjoy time with your family and keep your kids busy.
Stop #1 – Toy Town
This wonderland of fun has been the place for toy enthusiasts for nearly 25 years! No matter what age your kiddos are, there is something for everyone. Lego sets of any type line the back wall. You’ll find science experiments for all levels from beginner to expert and play sets that will exercise your child’s creative eye and mind as they build until their heart’s content. Dollhouses, dress-up clothes, and popular brand figurines can help each kid stretch their imagination to the fullest and get the most out of play time. If you are looking for a game for family game night, this is the place for unique, traditional, and off-the-wall fun for the whole family.
With so much to look at, you will not only keep the kids entertained by looking for the latest and greatest toys, but they’ll have hours of fun playing with whatever they choose to take home.
Stop #2 – The Science Zone
When it comes to hands-on experiences, The Science Zone takes it to the next level. Located on Midwest Avenue below Slumberland Furniture, The Science Zone fosters a fantastic learning environment all in the name of fun. Exhibits are changed out occasionally to bring new and exciting activities to patrons all year long. The current exhibit, in collaboration with NASA and the National Informal STEM Education Network, called “Sun, Earth, Universe” gives insight to the workings of our solar system and allows patrons to learn first-hand how our universe ticks.
In addition to the main exhibits, favorite stations like the bubble trays, the Augmented Reality Sandbox, and the Beta Zone (where homemade exhibits are displayed) are mainstays to The Science Zone and favorites of each person that stops in. As if the experiments weren’t enough, seeing the giant tortoise, lizards, turtles, and more will be the icing on the cake for this stop.
Stop #3 – Natrona County Library
No doubt the Natrona County Library is on your list of places to stop this summer. Reading can pass the time away and take you and your children on adventures you never imagined. But did you know that the library offers more than just checking out books? That’s right! Each week, the library offers many programs throughout the week such as story time for littles, DIY challenges, concerts, book clubs and teen nights.
The addition of the Creation Station, a community makerspace, will help you and your young ones flex your creative skills without having to purchase all of the expensive equipment. The newly acquired 3D printer, a Cricut cutter, laminators, sewing machines and children’s equipment are just a few of the tools you will find in this free-to-use space. Cap off your summer by finishing the Summer Reading programs before it’s time to head back to school.
Stop #3 – Crave Candy
It’s always nice to stop for a sweet treat and the best place to fix your sweet tooth is Crave Candy. Located in the Wolcott Galleria, this shop carries old fashioned candy, old fashioned soda, and tea. From candy bars to licorice and jawbreakers, you can purchase a bag or just a few pieces. One thing is for sure, no one will leave this store disappointed!
Stop #3 – David Street Station
Downtown Casper has never been more exciting, and the addition of David Street Station has brought our community together more than ever. Whether you are taking a break for a picnic on the lawn, cooling off in the Hilltop Bank Splash Pad, letting the kids run around the expansive plaza, or catching one of the many events, your crew will be far from bored down here.
This summer has been packed with family-friendly events like Lunch on the Lawn where live performances for local area youth and hands-on activities take place, Family Game Night where you can all learn a new game together, the Hilltop Bank Summer Concert Series where you can dance and listen to music together, and Cinema at the Station where families can enjoy a favorite film in the outdoor amphitheater. Other events like the Food for Thought Summer Market and Wellness Wednesdays help our community to support local, eat healthier by purchasing locally grown produce, and get active with free fitness classes.
